Blogs > Lighten Up with Bob Kaseda

Bob Kaseda of Kirtland finished second in Lighten Up a few years ago, but came back because he saw the weight creeping back on. He's competitive, and works hard, so he's expecting big results.

Week 24

Hi Everyone, I am starting to believe that slow and steady Does Not win the race with this group of tough competition. I stopped by our 5th weigh in today and everyone that I saw looked great! I also had the opportunity to visit Joe Marich at his bakery yesterday, and what a tough competitor he is. I could never be in his business and stay thin! Cakes and breads and sweets and fresh baked pizza, Forget about it! The turtle is happy to record another loss in the books for June but unless I break out the carving knife, I will probably finish somewhere in the middle of the pack at the end and that is fine by me. Everyone in this contest will agree that we are all winners in the end and they will also agree that this process will continue even after the contest ends next month. I said it once in an earlier blog and I will say it again. I plan to hit my goal by the end of the year and my New Years Resolution for 2015 will not be to LOSE WEIGHT! Good luck everyone and Be Strong! Bob

Week 23

Hi Everyone, I was told today by a friend as follows: I saw you in the paper. Your a celebrity. I have lost count of how many people have told me this throughout the last 4 months. As we said in the beginning, don't get involved in a contest like this if you don't want people to know your fat and trying to lose weight. I know I am fat! The scale says I am fat! Now the whole world knows I am fat! SO WHAT. What is important is that I and all of my fellow contestant friends are doing something about it and I will not look back. If I ever want to take a walk down memory lane, I have tons of pictures showing the Fat Bob. I want to be a role model for my daughter and I have noticed that she is shrinking right before my eyes after just over a month of exercising together. That makes this whole tough journey worth every bite of the hard work, sacrifice and sweat as we move forward. What a great way to spend quality time together! Thank you Emily, for being there by my side this last month. Good luck and Be Strong! Bob

Week 22

Hi Everyone, I just returned from the Perry outdoor YMCA after our 30 minute walk/run routine around the hockey arena and a swim in the pool. What a great privilege it is to have access to such a nice facility. I fell like I am always unprepared for the up and coming weigh in and really need to crank up the heat within 1 - 2 weeks before so I can record a loss. I have done the walk / run routine from C25K.com (week 1 ) everyday for the last 25 days straight and I also have recorded my diet into vitabot everyday sense the beginning and still the weight is coming off very slowly. Maybe this is a great lesson for me to realize that I can't just drop 15-20 lbs at a snap of a finger like I used too years back. Everyone keeps telling me that losing it slow is the way to go for more long lasting results. My results are certainly going to be long lasting as in the rest of my days, because I DO NOT want to have to keep putting my body through this yo yoing any more. I feel like the lighter Bob is who I really am. Good Luck and Be Strong. Bob

Week 21

Hi Everyone, I am so very thankful for the YMCA. My workout partner Emily and I have been exercised together for almost 3 weeks and the results are starting to show. I visited the doctor last week just before the 4th weigh in and he was pleased that I actually showed up lighter then the previous visit. Over the last couple of years I was gaining weight with every visit with no signs of stopping. This contest helped me to put the brakes on and start to turn things around. I am focused on a goal of breaking the 200lb mark and it sure is coming very slowly this time around. When I reach this goal I will remember all the hard work and sacrifice that it took to lose this weight and remain on this diet for the rest of my life. As much as I am going to miss this contest I know that this is the last time that I will need a weight loss contest. My New Years resolution for 2015 will not be to lose weight because I will be at my goal. Here are my words to live by as follows: No food tastes as good as thin feels!! Good luck and be strong! Bob
